Spanning the last 50 years of work, legendary photographer Billy Tinney drew an impressive crowd at Austin’s Conroy Gallery as visitors gathered to celebrate both his remarkable career and his recent birthday. Tinney has served as editor in chief and senior photographer for Tattoo Magazine.
The show featured a sweeping collection of images documenting decades of tattoo culture from intimate portraits of artists, models and collectors to rare behind the scenes moments that captured the evolution of the craft. Longtime admirers, fellow photographers, tattoo enthusiasts, and industry veterans filled the space to reflect on Tinney’s lasting influence across multiple generations.
The birthday celebration added an especially festive atmosphere to the event, with collectors traveling from across the country and beyond to pay their respects and experience the gallery curated by Belen Villarreal firsthand. Throughout the evening attendees shared stories about the photographer’s impact on their career and on the tattoo community while carefully enjoying the extensive archive on display. The exhibition served not only as a celebration of an extraordinary artistic legacy but also as a reunion of friends, collectors, enthusiasts, and admirers brought together by decades of shared history
